Introduction To Contherm HP
The Contherm HP is specifically designed for applications with medium to extreme viscosity, where there is a need for high product pressures. Its robust design allows it to handle pressures up to 41 bar (600 psi), which is twice the pressure rating of the traditional Contherm. This makes it suitable for processing scenarios that involve materials with elevated viscosity levels and require the ability to withstand higher product pressures throughout the heat exchange process.
Contherm HP Applications
The Contherm HP scraped-surface heat exchanger (SSHE) has found use within many different processes and applications for manufacturing food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, health and beauty products, etc. It is particularly suited for processing viscous, heat sensitive, sticky or chunky (containing particulates) products that are to be pumped. It finds it strength in high pressure application such as like margarine, shortening, confectionary masses or nut butter processing, where process wise higher design pressures are necessary. On the other side, it offers a more simplistic design for servicing, as it has a self-aligning motor/ gear box, which makes a coupling not needed.

Like the traditional Contherm, Contherm HP can be installed both horizontally and vertically, offering flexibility to meet specific preferences or space limitations. Contherm HP can be installed either horizontally or vertically depending on customer preference.
Contherm HP Working principle
Product enters the cylinder through the lower product head and flows upwards through the cylinder. At the same time, the heating/cooling media travel in a counter current flow through the narrow annular channel . Rotating blades that meet the wall through centrifugal force continuously remove product from the cylinder wall in order to ensure uniform transfer of heat from the media to the product. An optional coil in the annulus increases media velocity, adding to the heat transfer efficiency. Product exits the cylinder through the upper tangential port. Product flow and rotor speed can be varied to suit the properties of the particular product flowing through the cylinder.
